William Edwards Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships Available for Great Meadows Students!

For the third year, two $500 scholarships are being offered to high school seniors who attended schools in the Great Meadows Regional School District.  The scholarships will be awarded by the Great Meadows Regional Education Association (GMREA).

The William Edwards Memorial Scholarship for Academic Excellence is presented to a student who has maintained a high grade point average throughout high school and who has participated in school or community activities.  The Robert Forte Memorial Scholarship for Performing and Fine Arts is awarded to a student who has distinguished himself or herself in any of the fine or performing arts and who intends to pursue that discipline in college.

Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation and a completed application no later than March 31.  The application is available at the guidance departments of area high schools (including Hackettstown High School, Warren County Technical School, Blair Academy, and Pope John XXIII High School.)   The application is also available through the district’s Web site at www.gmrsd.com/scholarships .

The scholarships in the amount of $500 each were instituted in 2010 by the GMREA to recognize high school seniors who had attended the schools in the Great Meadows Regional School District.  The district includes Central School in Independence, Liberty School, and Great Meadows Middle School.  The GMREA consists of teachers and other professionals from the district.

The GMREA named the scholarships in memory of William Edwards (a longtime principal/superintendent of Central School before Independence and Liberty merged to form the Great Meadows Regional School Districts) and Robert Forte (a photographer who took pictures of classes and individual students in the district for many years).
